Twelve hours ago I didn't even know what they were made of (cream cheese, double cream and icing sugar, since you asked). At the restaurant today I asked my manager what a springbottom tin was, which lead to one thing, and another, and suddenly a coworker was writing down her never-fails-to-deliver cheesecake recipe for me. (Perfect timing: a friend's leaving-town dinner is tonight.)

I've done more daring things in the kitchen, I'm pretty sure, but this little excursion means a lot to me, seeing as how my dessert-making practices have never left the realm of, well, brownies. Lots and lots of trays of brownies with lots and lots of various ingredients. Maple, raspberries, walnuts, honeycomb, Werthers Originals. (Any former roommate of mine would agree that some were better than others.) This cheesecake is the beginning of a very sweet and unhealthy venture into the world of desserts from scratch.

I've yet to taste it but I licked my fair share off the whisk and my thumbs. I'm excited and delighted. The dinner party begins in T-minus one hour -- fingers crossed that it delivers. -bAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
